Wildlife

Respect Wildlife's Space: Wildlife in the highlands is often used to humans, but that doesn't mean they want to be close to you. Always keep a safe distance from animals, especially when observing them in their natural habitat. For example, seals should be observed from at least 100 metres away.

Avoid Feeding Wildlife: It's tempting to feed wildlife, but doing so can be dangerous for all involved. Feeding wildlife can cause major health risks and changes in behaviour that not only put the animal in danger but humans too.

Keep a Look Out for Wildlife: The Assynt is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including seals, otters, and seabirds. Keep a lookout for animals when paddling and make sure to approach them slowly and quietly.

Keep Noise to a Minimum: Loud noises can startle wildlife and disrupt their natural behaviour. When paddling near wildlife, such as nesting sea birds, it's best to keep noise to a minimum.

By following these guidelines, you can help ensure that your paddling experience in the Assynt is safe and enjoyable for both you and the wildlife. Whether you're observing seals basking on rocks, otters playing in the water, or seabirds soaring overhead, the Assynt offers a unique opportunity to see some of Scotland's most magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

Enjoy your paddling experience in the Assynt and remember to always treat wildlife with respect!
